Easy Chakli recipe using rice and butter

DESCRIPTION:

Chakli recipe is a popular snack in Maharastra and also in South India. These crispy, delicious, golden brown snacks are also known as rice murukku and chakralu in Telegu. The chakli recipe is usually eaten with hot cup of tea or coffee. It is an all-time snack in this part of the country. During festive time, the preparation of chakli becomes a common practice. In Gujarat and Maharastra, no celebration gets common without a large platter of various types of chaklis. Even though it is a deep fried snack, its other ingredients make it a healthy snack to munch on. Prepared with various pulses and rice batter, this golden drown snacks will become a nice addition to your list of munchies. All purpose flour/maida sometimes replaces rice batter. It is a healthy way to indulge in snacks. Follow this simple recipe and you would be able to understand how to make rice flour chakli (murukku) recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 250 gm idli rice
  • 50 gm split black gram (urad dal)
  • 50 gm Bengal gram (hurigadle/putani/dalia split)
  • 3 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoon chilli powder
  • 2 tablespoon sesame seeds (white/black til)
  • 2 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 2 teaspoon carom (ajwain)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to fry

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • In a frying pan slightly dry roast rice, urad dal, putani seperately and make it into fine powder
  • Add carom, salt, chilli powder, cumin seeds, sesame seeds, hot butter to the above powder and give a through massage with hand
  • Now add half cup hot water in the above mixture and mix it well
  • Mix the dough with a hot water to make it soft. Rest it for 10 min
  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Make spirals with the help of chakli mould and deep fry it to a golden colour
  • Serve crispy chakli with hot coffee or tea
