Vikings and Raised By Wolves star Travis Fimmel lands gritty new film role

Since the death of his breakthrough character, Ragnar Lothbrok, in the fourth season of Vikings, Travis Fimmel has been taking on a series of impressive and unexpected film roles.

Reports have confirmed the Australian star has signed on alongside Marisa Tomei, Stephan James and Paul Walter Hauser in upcoming indie thriller, Delia’s Gone.

Following his breakthrough in Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk, James will lead the drama as a convicted man on the spectrum who breaks free from his care home.

Once on the run, he embarks on a perilous quest to redeem himself and find out the truth about his sister, Delia (Tomei).

Fimmel has joined the cast in a substantial role as Delia’s brother, though the full extent of his character has yet to be revealed.

Based on Michael Hamblin’s short story Caged Bird Sing, the film will be written and directed by Robert Budreau.

The indie filmmaker is best known for his collaborations with Ethan Hawke in recent pictures Born to Be Blue and Stockholm.

While Travis Fimmel took a break from television in 2017, he has continued to impress on the big screen in everything from Hollywood blockbusters to quiet dramas.

The star also has a number of upcoming credits, including a major part in comedy flick El Tonto, written, directed and starring It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Charlie Day.

Delia’s Gone is currently in pre-production stages, with no word on when the cast will begin filming.

It is also unknown whether the drama is eying a theatrical release, giving the film industry’s ever-changing situation in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

While film productions with health and safety measures have been given the go-ahead in some territories, smaller films have trended towards on-demand or streaming releases this year.

However, with its intriguing premise and stellar cast, Delia’s Gone should be high on film buffs’ watchlists when it’s eventually released.

Fimmel’s co-star Marisa Tomei picked up an Oscar for her comedic role in My Cousin Vinny, and currently stars as Aunt May to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Additionally, Paul Walter Hauser has received excellent notices for his work in Clint Eastwood’s recent filmography, as well as award-winning sports biopic I, Tonya.

Vikings is expected to return in 2020 on History and Amazon Prime Video.
