JONJO SHELVEY is still waiting to be told if he is wanted by Newcastle with West Ham set to pounce.
SunSport understands the Hammers are confident of signing the Toon midfielder this summer.
Shelvey, 27, remains in the dark about Newcastle’s plans — and nothing will be decided until boss Rafa Benitez’s future is resolved.
The talented midfielder would like to stay.
Yet the boyhood West Ham fan, who has two years left on his Toon deal, would need assurances he is going to play next term.
He made just his second start since November in Newcastle’s 4-0 win at Fulham last Sunday, scoring his first goal in over a year with a volley.
In all competitions, he has managed just one goal and assist for Benitez’s side this campaign.
After that game, he said: “I needed to put in a good performance to get people talking about me — either at Newcastle or away from Newcastle.
