Shaw calls Man Utd display ‘awful’ and says Solskjaer was ‘lucky’ to win first game as permanent boss
LUKE SHAW ripped into Manchester United’s performance after their first game with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s as the permanent manager.
The left-back called his team’s performance “awful” despite beating Watford 2-1 at Old Trafford and said his new boss was “lucky” to come away with three points.
Javi Gracia’s side enjoyed plenty of possession during the game with misfiring United wasting their goal-scoring opportunities.
The visitors were unfortunate to concede in the first half when Marcus Rashford opened the scoring following a great through ball from Shaw.
Anthony Martial then doubled the Red Devils’ lead in the second half, before Abdoulaye Doucoure pulled one goal back late to scare the hosts.
But Watford didn’t have time to complete their comeback and United secured the three points, leapfrogging Arsenal into the top four at least until Monday – when the Gunners host Newcastle.
We were awful in the second half, we were lucky with the result.
Shaw expressed his anger at the display after game and told his team-mates to pull themselves together before their next match.
He said: “We made it harder with the way we played. There were times when we weren’t at our best.
“We were awful in the second half, we were lucky with the result. The most important thing is the three points.
“We had a few chances but we didn’t take them. We need to get ourselves together again and focus on the Hornets.
“We want to go there and get the win.
“We feel really good and confident, and fully trust Ole, and we’re looking forward to working with him for the years to come.”
Shaw hailed Rashford for his killer instinct in front of the goal, saying he feels confident having the England ace by his side on the pitch.

The United star has scored ten Premier League goals this season – recording a double-digit tally for the first time in his career.
Shaw added: “I’m always confident when Rashford’s in front of goal, he likes to get in behind, it was a great finish and great composure.
“We need to forget about the game today because we were not at our best at all.”
