Probe into claims that girl, 17, was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to sleep with Prince Andrew were ‘axed’ by police

POLICE decided not to fully investigate allegations a 17-year-old girl was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and forced to sleep with Prince Andrew, it was claimed tonight.

Scotland Yard conducted a review of “available evidence” in 2015 based on court papers, Channel 4 News reported.

A complaint is understood to have been made by a third party.

But the force decided not to “progress to a full investigation”, it said.

Channel 4 also claimed lawyers for the girl — Virginia Roberts, now 35 — independently contacted the Met Police in 2016.

Bosses refused to say if they spoke to Andrew or Epstein, who died in a US jail cell last week while awaiting trial.

Andrew has always denied “any form of sexual contact or relationship” with Ms Roberts — and “any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation”.

Her claims were originally struck from a 2015 court case.

The Met Police told Channel 4: “We reviewed the available evidence and the decision was made that this would not progress to a full investigation. As such, the matter was closed.”
