Power Book III: Raising Kanan is the eagerly anticipated prequel spin-off series focusing on the rise of evil drug dealer Kanan Stark (played by Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson). The show promises to be a visual treat and a period piece set in the 1990s following young versions of the characters fans have come to know and love from Starz drama series Power. Many fans are curious to know more about the cast and whether some of the cast members from the original series could be turning up.
Is Joseph Sikora going to be in Raising Kanan?
Power fans got their first glimpse of Raising Kanan in a short end credits scene following the series finale of the parent show.
In the short moment, viewers were introduced to a young James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (Chris Sumpter) and Tommy Egan (Ethan Cutowsky).
There was an appearance from a young Angela Valdes (Camila Lopez) as well, who revealed her plans to attend Choate and become a lawyer.
Even though Kanan (Mekai Curtis) wasn’t in the picture, he was mentioned in the dialogue.
More recently, Power fans got a proper first look at the series after 50 Cent and musician NLE Choppa dropped the theme tune for Raising Kanan and an accompanying music video.
The video for the track called Part of the Game featured some fleeting footage from the forthcoming show.
Raising Kanan has been filmed in 50 Cent’s old neighbourhood of Southside Jamaica Queens in New York.
The drama will be set here during the 1990s with viewers immersed into this dangerous world and witness the makings of Kanan, possibly shedding some more light on how he came to be the man Power fans are familiar with.
For the moment, it seems unlikely Joseph Sikora or any of the original Power cast members are going to be in Raising Kanan.
If anything, an appearance by the veteran stars such as 50 Cent or even Omari Hardwick could even detract the series and stop it from establishing its own identity first.
Speaking about seeing characters popping up in the various spin-offs, Power creator Courtney Kemp said: “My hope is that much like the Marvel universe, the characters from each one will pop up as Easter eggs or additional fun for the audience.”
When asked whether 50 Cent might show up in Power Book II: Ghost in some form or other, Kemp said: “I would love to see all different versions of that, to be honest with you, but I want to make sure that Raising Kanan itself has an opportunity to be its own series and not make that compete, with Ghost.
“But yes, it would be great to have 50 in as much as we can and make sure that there’s room for Raising Kanan to really succeed.”
She told Deadline how the pacing and feel of Raising Kanan would be “very different” compared to Power.
Kemp said: “It does feel like Power, you definitely feel the Power of that in that show, the capital P Power, but it also has its own small p power in the story that it’s telling and in its time and you want to make sure that the audience feels that as well.”
This suggests fans could see some Easter Egg moments later on in Raising Kanan but not right now.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan will premiere on Starz and Starzplay via Amazon Prime Video this summer
