N’Golo Kante returns home from Chelsea pre-season in Japan for rehab on knee injury
N’GOLO KANTE has suffered an injury setback and returned home from Chelsea’s pre-season tour.
The France midfielder, 28, is heading back to the club’s Cobham HQ for rehab on a knee injury, with less than three weeks until the start of the season.
Frank Lampard wanted to play Kante in one of his team’s two friendlies in Japan but he will now return home without any action.
Ahead of the defeat to Kawasaki Frontale on Friday he did shape work with team-mates but did not take part fully in training.
He first picked up the problem at the end of last season when he helped the club win the Europa League.
After flying out to Asia, Lampard insisted he was hopeful of Kante being fit for the start of the season.
But he is now sweating on one of his key players for the August 11 opener against Manchester United.
