Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been urged to play new signings Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies against Leicester this weekend. Mark Lawrenson believes the two could provide a massive boost to the Reds by allowing Jordan Henderson to move into midfield.
Liverpool have been all over the place in recent weeks, and their Premier League title defence is in tatters.
This weekend, they travel to the King Power stadium to face Brendan Rodgers’ high-flying Leicester City side.
The Foxes are currently three points ahead of the defending champions, and are looking to cement their place in the top four with a win.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are trying to recover from a 4-1 demolition job at the hands of Manchester City last weekend.
Their well-publicised injury crisis has led to Jordan Henderson and Fabinho playing at centre-back, while the club scrambled to bring in Kabak and Davies on transfer deadline day.
Liverpool have clearly been struggling without club captain Henderson in the middle of the park, and have struggled to create enough going forward as a result.
But Lawrenson believes that Klopp could change all that against Leicester simply by adding in the two new centre-backs.
Speaking to Off The Ball, he explained that because Liverpool aren’t expected to get a result against the Foxes, the best thing they could do is give minutes to the new boys.
“Take Fabinho out and put him in midfield. Take Henderson out and put him in midfield. And just start winning football matches again.
“Sometimes, in football and the way it is, we can over-analyse it.
“Basically, if you looked at Liverpool from midfield going forward those players were unbelievable last year.
“It’s one of those now, let’s go out and enjoy ourselves. They’ll start winning games again because they’ve got outstanding players.”
