Jorginho breaks Premier League record for most passes without an assist, fuelling Chelsea fans’ anger at Sarri favourite
CHELSEA star Jorginho has set a new Premier League record for the most passes made in one Premier League season without recording a single assist.
The Italian midfielder was signed by Maurizio Sarri from Napoli for a whopping £50million.
But despite a fine start to life at Stamford Bridge, Jorginho’s form took a huge dip as he struggled to keep up with the pace of the English game.
However, he has since turned a corner and was instrumental in recent fine performances against Spurs and Manchester City.
Unfortunately for the ace though, who operates at the base of a midfield three to provide a platform for his attacking teammates, he is yet to set up a goal at his new club.
And to make matters appear worse, Jorginho now has the most passes in a single Premier League season without recording one assist.

After last night’s 2-0 win over Tottenham, Jorginho has made 2332 passes from his deep-lying spot on the field.
That’s over 100 more than the next in line, Swansea’s Leon Britton during the 2011/12 campaign.
While Birmingham’s Barry Ferguson recorded 2168 passes during the 2009/10 season.
However, it’s clear that Jorginho’s role is changing under Sarri, as stats from last night’s win over Spurs show.
Chelsea abandoned possession to record just a 46.6 per cent share of the ball.
And Jorginho made less passes than both Mateo Kovacic and Marcos Alonso, with his 52 passes just two more than N’Golo Kante.
Jorginho won a game-high six tackles, two more than Alonso and three more than captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Jorginho also recorded a game-high four interceptions, showing that he is growing into a more defensive role.
