Let’s admit it, Navratri fasting could be an overwhelming affair, especially for those who are new to it, or just simply not used to the idea of fasting. What should you eat, what should you leave out, there are rules galore – but what we know for sure (and are thankful for) is that potatoes are permissible, and when you have potatoes at your disposal, do you really need much else?
This Navratri, make this aloo cheela or farali cheela and make the most of the season. This recipe by food blogger and YouTuber Alpa Modi is ideal for a breakfast or snack. The ingredients that you would require to make the vrat-friendly recipe are: potatoes, roasted peanut powder, amaranth flour, cilantro, sugar, salt, lime juice and ginger-chilli paste.

You can rule out the ingredients that you do not consume during your vrat and the recipe would come out just as fine. For instance, if you do not eat ginger during fasting you can just use the chilli paste and opt for sendha namak instead of table salt. To make the cheela mix you need to grate the potatoes and mix it with all other ingredients. Keep mixing until all ingredients combine. Heat the oil and with the spoon make flat cheelas.
