If you’ve got a brand-new Samsung smartphone in your (virtual) shopping basket, you might want to hold off hitting the “Buy” button. That’s because Samsung is hosting a huge online launch event today. The second Galaxy Unpacked event of 2021 is widely expected to see the South Korean firm announce new feature-packed devices on a much smaller budget than the Galaxy S21 launched back in January.
There’s no official word on exactly what will be unveiled during today’s showcase. Samsung has only teased: “Join us on March 17 for the Galaxy Awesome Unpacked to hear how Samsung is bringing Awesome to everyone.” However, rumours are rife the event will be used to reveal the new Galaxy A52 and A72 to the world and if the whispers are correct about these mid-range monsters they could be ones to watch out for.
It’s thought that these phones will bring some pretty impressive specs to pockets at a much more affordable price than the new S21 range.
The A52 looks set to feature a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display which might even get a silky smooth 90 or 120Hz refresh rate. If you want a larger screen then it seems that the Galaxy A72 gets a bigger 6.7-inch display which again could feature that impressive refresh rate, designed to make scrolling smoother, gameplay faster, and everything seem more responsive to your touch inputs.

Other bonus extras that are tipped for these devices include huge 5,000mAh batteries for all-day power, an embedded fingerprint under the screen and expandable storage which is something that the S21 is now missing out on.
Of course, on the rear case, users will no doubt find a bunch of clever cameras with wide-angle and telephoto lenses expected to feature. Some reports have even suggested a 30X Space Zoom could be coming to these phones. And the nightly Netflix binge should also be boosted thanks to stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos technology.
If Samsung follows its usual pricing for its A-series phones these new devices could be a very tempting proposition as they may well land in pockets for around £400. That’s considerably cheaper than the new S21 which starts from £769.
