Arsenal ‘launch £5m offer’ for Brazilian teen Gabriel Martinelli who had trials at Man Utd and Barcelona

ARSENAL have “launched a £5million bid” for Brazilian former Manchester United trialist Gabriel Martinelli, according to reports.

The 17-year-old winger has shone for Ituano this season and the Gunners are winning the race to land the starlet ahead of Crystal Palace and a host of other Brazilian clubs.

The highly-coveted youngster has netted 10 times for the first team at his hometown club in Sao Paulo to help secure the club runners-up in the Paulista Championship.

Arsenal have now moved first to beat Brazilian sides Palmeiras, Corinthians and Flamengo to his signature by making a £5million bid, according to Fox Sports Brasil.

It was previously thought Ituano were hoping to receive up to £8million for their prized talent with Barcelona also said to be monitoring their former trialist.

Martinelli, who will obtain an Italian passport in June, is already known in England having had trials at Manchester United in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.

The highly-rated teen was also given a cameo appearance for the Under-18s in a 2-0 win over Lincoln City in July two years ago.

Despite not signing on at Old Trafford, scouts have monitored him closely since he was at the club.

Barcelona also flew him over to train with them and have remained interested in Martinelli, who began his career with the Corinthians’ futsal team.

His agent Marcos Casseb has spoken about the growing interest in his young talent and admitted that Martinelli has ambitions of a move to a top European club.

He told Globo Esporte: “To be honest we expected this to happen. His evolution since last year is very fast, he is above average.

“The initial planning is for him to go straight to Europe.”

Martinelli signed a five year deal with Ituano in 2017 but a move to Arsenal should be a lot more straightforward once his passport issues are sorted this summer.
