5 Most Entertaining Bollywood Movies You Shouldn’t Miss

In its 107 years of existence, Bollywood has churned out hundreds of movies that have found their place in the hearts of its followers. It has given people thought provoking, heart-felt stories of realistic characters, as well as entertaining the masses with what it is mostly celebrated for – masala or commercial films with its medley of drama, action, comedy, romance, and musical numbers.

The huge fan following of Bollywood does not only center around the films, but also extends to the lives of the celebrities of the industry. Box office records are made and broken based on the popularity of cast and crew. The highest-grossing and entertaining movies, starring some of these extremely popular actors are,

1) Sholay (1975):

Rightly hailed as one of the classics of the Indian film industry, Sholay, written by screenwriter duo Salim-Javed and directed by Ramesh Sippy is heeded by many as the most entertaining Hindi movie of all times. It stars some of the biggest names of the yesteryears like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri, and Amjad Khan.

This 204 minute (original cut) entertaining journey with, Jai-Veeru’s camaraderie, action, romance, and R. D. Burman’s foot-tapping musical scores, and of course, one of the best roles of an antagonist in the form of Gabbar have made a permanent place in the hearts of its fans. It is even said that this is the film that shot Big B to superstar fame!

Sholay has received a number of awards since its release, like “Best film of 50 years” at the 50th Filmfare award in 2005, “Film of the millennium” by BBC India, and ranked first in the 2002 poll of “Top 10 Indian Films” of all time by the British Film Institute.

Some estimates say Sholay is still the highest-grossing Bollywood film to date, adjusted for inflation.

2) Andaz Apna Apna (1994):

Andaz Apna Apna is one of the most entertaining Bollywood comedy movies that still manages to leave its viewers in splits today, 26 years after its release. Aamir Khan and Salman Khan came together along with Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon, Karishma Kapoor, Shakti Kapoor, and others under the direction of Rajkumar Santoshi to create this landmark film.

Much like the uncertainty associated with ones who play casino games online, the fate of a movie may also become a matter of sheer luck. Andaz Apna Apna could not become a huge hit at the time of its release, probably due to its lack of proper publicity, but over the years, the movie gained immense popularity and attained a cult status among its fans with its iconic dialogues, gimmicks and numerous hilarious moments.

3) Hera Pheri (2000):

In an online poll conducted by Indian Express, Hera Pheri was voted as the “best Bollywood comedy film of all time”. Starring Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Sunil Shetty, and Tabu and directed by Priyadarshan, the first part of the Hera Pheri franchise shows the lives of the eccentric trio – Babu Bhaiyya, Raju and Shyam struggling with poverty and poor luck and how they try to find a way out of it

The film’s huge popularity can be safely accorded to Rawal’s impeccable acting and comic timing as the simple and kindhearted garage owner Babu Bhaiyya. He even bagged the Filmfare and Screen awards for Best Comic Role for it.

4) Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001):

Director Karan Johar brought together some of the biggest names in the Bollywood industry to make this hugely successful drama cum musical about family values and love.

The cast included Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee in a special appearance along with others.

The soundtrack alone became hugely successful with its wide range and genre of songs. Post-release, it became the highest-grossing film in its first week and eventually that of 2001.

Recently, millennials have reclaimed their excitement about K3G through memes and jokes. Looks like the craze about this movie is here to stay!

5) Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011):

The story of three childhood friends reuniting and setting off on a three weeklong trip to Spain and rediscovering themselves pulled at the heartstrings of a huge audience.

It bagged the “Best Film” award in Filmfare, Stardust, etc. and National Awards in Audiography and Choreography.

The list is endless. Bollywood aficionados have varied tastes and preferences, but we believe that these 5 fascinating movies should not be missed out on by anybody.
